DP Induction Course

The DP Induction Course provides basic training in Dynamic Positioning and follows the curriculum recommended by the Nautical Institute. Masters, navigating officers and, where relevant, others on watch on the navigating bridge, or other location, are given ‘hands-on’ control at the DP control console. The Nautical Institute has accredited Aboa Mare Training Centre and the course is carried out with Navis Dynamic Positioning System.
A trainee successfully completing the DP Induction Course will have acquired a knowledge of the principles of Dynamic Positioning. He/she is able to set up a dynamic positioning system and has an understanding of the practical operation of the associated equipment, including position reference systems. The trainee should be able to recognise and respond to the various alarms, warning and information messages. He/she should also be able to relate the DP installation to the ship system, e.g. power supply, manoeuvring facility, available position reference systems and nature of work. The trainee should also be able to relate DP operations to the existing environmental conditions of wind, sea state, current and vessel movement
